Help Shape the Future of Boise Schools: Community Survey Now Open

Decisions about our school buildings will shape the education we provide students for years to come. Boise School District’s Scenarios & Concepts Survey is now open, and we invite families, staff and community members to weigh in on preliminary scenarios and concepts for further discussion before decisions are made.

Why This Planning Matters

Boise School District is developing a long-range roadmap to ensure our schools continue to provide students with equitable access to high-quality educational programs, services and learning environments.

Several realities make this work necessary now:

• District enrollment has declined from approximately 23,000 students in 2021–22 to about 21,100 students today.

• Our schools have approximately 9,000 more seats than currently needed, spreading staff, programs and resources across more buildings.

• Smaller school enrollments can limit access to full-time student support staff, multiple teachers at each grade level and a broad range of educational opportunities.

• The District faces nearly $480 million in projected deferred maintenance needs over the next five years, with those costs expected to continue rising.

• Thoughtful long-term planning will help the District use public resources responsibly while maintaining flexibility for changing enrollment, educational programs and community needs.

This process is about building a facilities plan – not a bond program or a final list of projects. It will establish priorities and guide decisions about every District facility over the next five, 10 and 15 years. Funding decisions would come later, after priorities are established.

Your Feedback Will Guide the Process

The survey presents three preliminary scenarios and asks for feedback on the concepts associated with each. Some concepts and scenarios are interconnected, so participants are encouraged to consider how they may work together and affect students, schools, educational programs and neighborhoods.

No final decisions have been made. Community feedback will help the District:

• Identify community priorities

• Understand what resonates, what may be missing and what could be improved

• Evaluate proposed scenarios and concepts

• Refine options for additional community review

• Inform future recommendations and decisions

This is the second survey in an ongoing, community-driven process. Each round of input will help refine the options before a final recommendation is presented to the Board of Trustees.
